Mark II (1967-1969):
These cars were launched at the same time as the MGC. The major
evolution in the MkII cars (the official nomenclature was the fourth series) was the
introduction of a new fully synchronized gearbox with revised ratios. An automatic gearbox
also became an option (until 1973) at the time. The electrical systems polarity was
reversed to negative earth, whilst American cars received a (horrible) revised dashboard
known as the Abingdon pillow, a third windscreen wiper and the first of a series of engine
changes due to emission control equipment (the last American spec MGBs had as little as
62.5 BHP.). The launch of the MkII series also coincided with the appearance of the MGC.
